Today, we proudly announce a major improvement to the Domain management feature of Smoothy. 🎉
Using this feature, you can manage the DNS records of your domains such as example.com or google.com through the interface of our cloud platform. On top of that, it allows you to easily link your domains and subdomains to your applications and automatically obtain free TLS certificates.
Until today, in order to manage your domain within Smoothy, you had to change its nameservers to those of Smoothy, and hence, transfer its DNS control. This solution worked fine for most of our early adopters. However, recently we onboarded a few larger teams, which had some more specific needs.
For their high-traffic applications, the teams use Cloudflare as their DNS provider. Although their productivity would benefit from being able to manage their DNS records within Smoothy, the advantage would come with the price of having to abandon Cloudflare. However, since Cloudflare is largely responsible for both the performance of their applications, as well as for their protection against malicious activity, the benefits of Smoothy did not justify this change.
So, we listened to their needs, organized a brainstorm, and came up with a solution.
As of today, rather than having to transfer the DNS control of your domains to Smoothy, you can now keep using your existing DNS provider, whether this is Cloudflare or any other alternative. Next, on your team’s integrations page within Smoothy, you can then add the credentials of your provider under the new section called DNS providers.
By doing this, you grant Smoothy the right to manage your domains, while they are still controlled by your DNS provider. This means that you can continue to manage your domains through the same familiar interface within Smoothy, without having to compromise the features offered by your own DNS provider. 🤯🚀
Your team’s Domains page now shows only the domains controlled by one of your integrated DNS providers at once. You can easily switch between DNS providers by using the filter in the right upper corner of the table.
This improvement was perceived as very welcome by our early adopters and we hope you like it too!
